Former President of Ghana and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has said the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has been an institution carrying a moral voice of the country.
Delivering a goodwill message to the newly ordained and installed Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wa, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan on August 2, Mr. Mahama noted the vital role the Catholic Church plays in advocating for justice and peace in Ghanaian society.
He commended the Catholic Bishops for their steadfast commitment to moral integrity. “I salute the Catholic Bishops on this occasion for continuing to be an irrepressible moral voice in our society,” the former president said. “A voice that continues to express its views irrespective of any influences and without fear or favour,” he added.
The Former President also highlighted the importance of this moral guidance at a time when societal challenges require ethical leadership. “On this solemn occasion, let us all pledge to continue to work for peace and prosperity for our people,” he added.
Referencing the Sahel Peace Initiative by the Church, Mr. Mahama stressed his commitment to collaborate with the Bishop’s Conference to ensure the country continues to enjoy peace.
“As a leader of a major political grouping in Ghana, I wish to assure you all that my comrades and I will work with the Church to maintain the total peace and progress of our country,” he stated.
His message called for unity and cooperation across political and religious lines to ensure a peaceful and successful future for Ghana. “It is our hope that our president and the members of his government and party will make a similar commitment to work with us all for a successful election and a peaceful nation,” he added.
Mr. Mahama extended his support and encouragement to the new Bishop. He expressed hope that Bishop Bomansaan would be granted “wisdom and strength to lead this Diocese to achieve the great commission of proclaiming his (God’s) word to all parts of the Diocese with compassion and understanding.” Catholic Trends
